Multitudes Zine Fest

On Saturday 17 August, I spent a day at Multitudes Zine Fest in Manchester.

The team did such a brilliant job of creating a safe, welcoming space packed full of brilliant makers, artists, writers, creators, and activists. I didn't have too much time to wander, but I bought some zines about PhD study, and tabletop gameplay. Had some lovely conversations with folk about horror, recovery, writing - 100% my jam and, coincidentally, what my zines are about...

A woman sits behind a desk that has zines and badges laid out on it. The woman has dark hair, and has both thumbs up.

Pictured: Me! The organisers encouraged mask-wearing where possible. Perfect time to dig out this gifted mask of (horror) masks.

What I had on the table:

  • Making Friends with Monsters: horror and mental health

  • Activity Journal: mix of book-related and reflective writing exercises

  • Wallpaper Girl: a flash fiction piece

  • Quit Lit: recommendations of books that helped my in recovery/sobriety

  • Cute bookmarks and badges

It's been a long while (yearsandyearsandyears) since I made zines and I loved getting back to cutting and Pritt Sticking my way through my ideas. The different zines represent different threads of my PhD research and the collaging approach was helpful in visualising the connections I'm making between different themes.

I'm able to post these out as a bundle to anyone in the UK - 4 x zines, bookmark and a badge for £7 inclusive of postage. Drop me a line if you would like one: thebetterwithbooksclub@gmail.com. Outside of the UK might be tricky for postage, but I'm hoping to sort the electronic versions at some point!
